When you’re home, try to keep the A/C at the same, constant temperature –between 71 and 77 degrees F – whatever feels most comfortable. When you’re gone for the day, increase it by 5 degrees. A simple 5 degree increase for 8 hours a day can save up to 10% in your energy bill every year!
3. During the hottest part of the day, use alternate, low-cost methods to stay cool, such as:
   • Use ceiling fans. They are very low cost and keep you comfortable.
   • Shut blinds and drapes during the hottest part of the day
   • Avoid running the stove, oven and dishwasher
   • Open windows, especially at night for ventilation and circulating the cooler air
4. Set a different temperature when you are home versus away.
   • HOME-When at home, keep the A/C at the same temperature between 71 and 77 F.
   • AWAY-When you’re away, increase it by 5 degrees. This can save up to 10% annually when you make this change 8 hours a day!
